Spring is here and this much welcomed change of season means warmer weather, longer days and for some, perhaps a chance to freshen up the pantry, switch-up your eating habits, and enjoy lighter, fresher meals with new in-season produce. You’ll find bananas, strawberries and a whole host of good-for-you greens filling the shelves at the supermarkets.
Here are some top tips on how you can spring into action:
Go green and grow your own
There’s something so rewarding about watching veggies and herbs sprout in your own backyard and then using them to cook from scratch in your own homemade recipes. Spring is a good time to plant beetroot, zucchini and cucumbers. Tip: Kale is a leafy green that just keeps on giving, so always pick the outer leaves first and you’ll be drinking Green machine juices every morning!
Powered by plants
Whether you’re reducing the amount of meat in your diet, opting for meatless Mondays or fully embracing the veggie lifestyle, take advantage of the spring greens available this season and opt for nut-based produce too. You can save money on pricey supermarket items by easily making your own vegetarian and vegan based staples with Thermomix®. Try sausage patties with mushrooms, Plant-based parmesan with walnuts, Vegan butter with cashews and Chocolate mousse with avocado.
Refresh your pantry staples
Whilst doing the spring clean, why not freshen up the pantry with more homemade staples made in Thermomix® too? This will not only save you money, but it’ll clear out the nasties and preservatives found in store-bought items too. Yoghurt, butter, bread and tomato paste are a good place to start. Use less waste
