Introducing TheMix Butter Bowl.  If you love making homemade butter or are tired of having hard butter straight from the fridge you will love this clever device.  Just fill with room temperature butter, add some water to the base and voila - perfectly spreadable butter for weeks! (you will need to change the water every few days for maximum freshness).

This butter bowl is a ceramic container used to maintain the freshness and spreadable consistency of butter without refrigeration.  Designed in the late 19th century the butter bowl has two parts: a base that holds water, and a cup to hold the packed butter which also serves as a lid. The cup containing butter is placed into the base, where water creates an airtight seal that keeps the air (and thus oxygen) away from the butter so that refrigeration is not needed and the butter can be used in its soft form. This method will keep butter for around a month provided it is kept at temperatures below 27 °C and the water is changed regularly.

Produced in classic matt white it will compliment all kitchens and is attractive enough to leave on display all year round.

Key Features

  • Spreadable butter!
  • Keeps butter fresh for weeks without refrigeration
  • Classic white to match all decors
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Stores 160g butter - enough for 2-3 days for most families

Firmly press your room temperature homemade or store bought butter into the clean and dry lid of the butter bowl (the back of a spoon is handy for pressing it in). You'll then need to add water (about 1/3 of a cup) to the base of the butter bowl before inverting the lid. This will create a vacuum seal preventing oxygen from accessing the butter which is the secret to maintaining it's freshness and spreadability for weeks at a time.

We do suggest you change the water every 2-3 days and if you're in a warmer environment (above 27 °C degrees inside) we'd recommend storing your filled butter bowl in the fridge. Otherwise it will slide out and land in the water!

If using homemade butter, make sure it is churned well until the liquid is clear and rinse 2-3 times. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible before putting in your butter bowl.

Wow!

I had to buy this as I always forget to take the butter out of the fridge!

I had to admit I was sceptical, but it works! I now always have spreadable butter 😊

Sorry to hear you are not happy with your bowl Kate, it can take a bit of getting used to... I would suggest keeping your bowl in an area where the temperature is below 27°C. If your house is quite warm, try keeping it in the fridge. It also might help to press the butter firmly into the bowl. If you are having problems with the butter sliding, this should help.

Thanks for your feedback Narelle, we will keep this in mind for our future orders. In terms of the butter sliding, it sounds like your butter bowl might be placed in an area that is too warm. We recommend keeping the bowl under 27 degrees so prevent it sliding. During summer it might be best to keep it in the fridge. Hope that helps!

Hi Hilary, we recommend adding about 1/3 of a cup to the bowl's base before inverting the lid. We also suggest changing the water every 2-3 days to keep it fresh. Hope that helps!
