We love Jo’s quirky approach to cooking and the way she cuts through all that noise on the internet with honest-to-goodness simple advice for those with allergies and intolerances. Here are some of our top picks from her Quirky Cooking cookbook that are great for pleasing a crowd with all sorts of dietary needs.
Spicy BBQ chicken ‘all-in-one’ meal
Your Thermomix makes it super easy to create delicious ‘all-in-one’ meals that save heaps of time and feed a small army. With this gluten-free, nut-free and egg-free recipe, your BBQ marinated chicken cooks in the Varoma tray with vegetables steaming in the Varoma dish, and rice cooking in the simmering basket all at the same time. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
Raw macadamia lime ‘cheesecake’
All the nutritional goodness of far North Queensland’s finest ingredients create a delicious tango of flavours in this recipe. We’re talking lime, avocado, macadamia nuts, vanilla and coconut. We’re talking dairy-free, gluten-free, egg-free, vegan, vegetarian and raw. It ticks all those boxes, so everyone gets to have their cheesecake and eat it.
Coconut butter
Homemade coconut butter is the ultimate nut-free ingredient for your pantry basics. We love using it as nut butter alternative for making raw treats, bliss balls and healthy dairy-free fudges.

How many recipe books does one buy (or download) and you feel so disappointed? Not so with Jo Whitton's book! All of Jo's recipes that I've followed so far have exceeded my expectations. This book is what I've been looking for, due to my digestion issues, and Jo's approach to healthy cook-from-scratch ingredients aligns with what my body needs. Thank you Jo.
I’ve been following Quirky Cooking on Instagram for a while and was very excited to get a cookbook of Jo’s. They are quite expensive at $60 and got this one in the Black Friday sales at a discount. The recipes have great flavours and heaps of handy allergy swaps and tips.
Great recipe book and lots of ideas for those with dietary restrictions
We have cooked so many meals and the soups and butter chicken recipes are so loved in my family!
