Butter bowl - Perfect!
Amazing butter bowl, exactly what I wanted! And suits every kitchen aesthetic. The perfect size!
The secret to perfectly spreadable, fresh and creamy butter is pairing your Thermomix® with the ceramic butter bell crock – a centuries-old method from the nation that loves their butter and fresh-baked bread as much as we Aussies do.
Well before the age of refrigeration, the French solved the problem of ‘How to store butter at room temperature and ‘how to keep butter soft’ by inventing the clever butter crock with a water seal. It preserves all the creamy texture and fresh delicate flavour of your homemade all-natural butter (or your favourite store-bought brand) for up to 30 days and makes a gorgeous addition to your tableware collection.
Here’s how to keep butter soft and ready to spread, anytime:
While reflecting the outside heat, the crock insulates and cools your butter. For best results, keep the ceramic butter bell crock away from heat sources and direct sunlight, as this may cause your butter to melt and fall into the water.
We also recommend using a flat knife to scrape butter evenly out of the ceramic butter bowl crock. Removing it in chunks can cause the butter to slip out of the bowl.
When you’ve taken your final scoops, and you’re ready to make another fresh batch in your Thermomix, both parts of the ceramic butter bell crock can go straight in the dishwasher for easy cleaning.
Fresh butter that’s always ready to spread. What’s not to love?
Firmly press your room temperature homemade or store bought butter into the clean and dry lid of the butter bowl (the back of a spoon is handy for pressing it in). You'll then need to add water (about 1/3 of a cup) to the base of the butter bowl before inverting the lid. This will create a vacuum seal preventing oxygen from accessing the butter which is the secret to maintaining it's freshness and spreadability for weeks at a time.
We do suggest you change the water every 2-3 days and if you're in a warmer environment (above 27 °C degrees inside) we'd recommend storing your filled butter bowl in the fridge. Otherwise it will slide out and land in the water!
If using homemade butter, make sure it is churned well until the liquid is clear and rinse 2-3 times. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible before putting in your butter bowl.

Amazing butter bowl, exactly what I wanted! And suits every kitchen aesthetic. The perfect size!
I have been looking for a butter bowl to store butter in the summer so I don’t have to keep it in the fridge. This is easy to use and does everything I expected it would.
The butter just falls out straight into the water no matter if how hard I push it in, no matter how soft or hard the butter is
Hi Tangiwai, thank you for your review. It can take some time getting used to so we wanted to share some tips which can hopefully help with using your butter bowl -
Put the lower part of your butter crock in the fridge to cool.
Firmly pack your freshly-made butter into the clean, dry butter bell (if you’re using store-bought butter, you’ll need to let it soften at room temperature first).
Remove the crock from your fridge and add 1/3 cup of cold fresh tap water.
Place the butter bell upside down in the water inside the crock, the airtight water seal will protect your butter. You just need to change the water every two to three days to keep things fresh.
We hope this helps.

I run a successful b&b and have upgraded my Thermomixes to both TM6 s to use for my business. Sometime ago I purchased three of the white butter bowls to use in the B&B. I often have people say, "Where did you get this ir's a wonderful idea!" I recently gave one away to a friend who stayed for a while . I replaced it but found the white one no longer advertised or on offer. I am not a modern thinking person and was reluctant to pur chase a dark coloured one, but needed to replace the one I had generously given away. The dark butter bowl shows up any sign of butter on the outside jacket as an ugly smear and the bowl part is smaller than the white ones and not as smoothly finished off around the rim... I suppose it is a matter of aesthetics, but quality also counts a lot for presentation. Bring back the option of the white one, please!
