Getting the most out of your Thermomix® Blade Cover and Peeler

If there’s one kitchen wish we could ask a genie for, it would likely be to have our potatoes peeled for us. Especially, when having guests over for lunch or dinner! It’s time-consuming, messy, tedious and repetitive. So, why peel potatoes if you don’t have to?

The Blade Cover and Peeler can make your daily life in the kitchen even easier with its ability to turn your Thermomix® into a sous-vide cooker, slow cooker and of course, peeler! We get it, you’re excited to test it out, but haven’t looked through the guide just yet. So, we wanted to share our simple how-to’s on using the peeler so that you don’t miss out on its full benefits.

Let’s get peeling!

  • Place the Blade Cover and Peeler over the blade. Hold the Blade Cover and Peeler by the central plastic insert and make sure the shaft with peeler is correctly positioned. Ensure that the upward curves of the Blade Cover and Peeler are aligned with the upward curves of the blades.
  • Add a maximum of 800g of root vegetables into the mixing bowl. We recommend using evenly sized vegetables that fit through the lid opening.
  • Then, add 600g of water, regardless of the amount of vegetables used. If you want to, you can also add 1 teaspoon of oil which helps to prevent frothing.
  • With your Thermomix® TM6, secure the lid and measuring cup and start the “Peeler” mode OR with your Thermomix® TM5, place the simmering basket on the mixing bowl instead of your measuring cup (unless you are using the locking measuring cup) and peel your vegetables for 4 mins / speed 4.
  • Once finished, drain the peeled vegetables, and don’t forget that the leftover water can be used to water your plants or garden.

Some valuable tips to keep in mind when using the Thermomix® Blade Cover and Peeler that you might not know.

  1. You don’t need to wash the veggies before your peel because they’ll be effortlessly scrubbed and peeled at the same time!
  2. For best results and an even peel on your veggies, we recommend using pieces of the same size and thickness
  3. The standard time for peeling is 4 mins / speed 4, however, depending on the type of veg you’re peeling or how many, you may want to increase or decrease the time so they are peeled to your liking.
  4. Some vegetables can’t be used with the peeler such as frozen vegetables or vegetables with very thick skins (like sweet potato) or very thin skins (like tomato).

  • Make sure the upward curves of the Blade Cover are aligned with the upward curves of the blades.
  • Both sous-vide and slow-cook have handy modes to help you cook with ease, just select the desired time and temperature.
  • When sous-viding, always ensure the water level does not exceed the 'max mark' in your bowl and add lemon juice to the water to protect from rust.
  • When slow cooking with meat, use a maximum of 800g and set the time anywhere between 1 to 8 hours. Make sure the speed is set to a maximum of 1 and the rotation is in reverse.
