Brushed stainless steel
The stainless steel tray makes cleaning after Varoma steaming a breeze. It keeps your TM7 Varoma dish free from sticky drips and protein residues, so everything can go straight in your dishwasher for easy cleaning. Avoid using harsh abrasive products for removing stubborn stuck-on foods. We recommend soaking the tray in warm water and mild detergent and wiping with a soft cloth. Not suitable for use in the microwave, on the stovetop or in the oven.
Is the TM7 steaming tray compatible with TM6?
No. It’s custom-made to fit the larger, rectangular TM7 Varoma®. But a smaller steel steaming tray is available that fits the TM6, TM5, and TM31 models.
How do you use the Varoma® Steaming Tray with the TM7?
The divided steaming tray slots neatly into the top of the TM7 Varoma® Tray for steaming veggies, rice, and/or proteins. You’ll need to add at least 250ml of water to the TM7 Bowl below for every 15 minutes of cooking time required. And if you’re utilising every layer in your TM7, make sure the dish you’re cooking in your TM7 Bowl below contains at least 500g of liquid.
We recommend pairing the TM7 Varoma® Steaming Tray with the Thermomix® Incredible Tongs with a locking handle to lift the tray safely and effortlessly.
What's the difference between the TM7 and TM6 steaming trays?
Both steaming trays are made of durable, food-safe stainless steel that heats quickly and cooks evenly, but they differ in size and cooking features.
The TM7 Varoma® Steaming Tray is custom-made to fit the roomier, rectangular TM7 Varoma® Dish, with perfectly aligned vents to keep the steam circulating and a 650ml capacity that’s divided into two sections - so you can steam rice or veggies on one side and protein on the other.
The TM6 Steaming Tray is designed to fit both the Varoma Dish and Tray in the TM6, TM5 and TM31 Thermomix® models. It’s deep enough to hold liquids, but shallow enough to allow steam to circulate through the side vents in the Varoma Tray.
Is the TM7 Varoma Steaming Tray stainless steel?
Yes. It’s made of durable, food-safe, 304-grade lightly bead-blasted stainless steel.
How many steaming trays come with the TM7?
Your Thermomix® TM7 comes with a standard Varoma® dish and tray made of food-safe, BPA-free and FDA-approved polypropylene. The stainless steel Varoma® Steaming Tray is sold separately.
How do you steam vegetables in the Varoma® Steaming Tray?
To cook vegetables in the steaming tray, cut them into equal-sized pieces or slices and arrange them in a single layer in the tray, so they cook evenly. Because the tray holds liquids, you can add a sprinkle of oil and seasoning, a little sauce, or even marinade your veggies for extra flavour.
You’ll need to add at least 250ml of water to the Thermomix® Bowl for soft vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and green beans, and cook for 10-15 minutes using the Varoma temperature setting and speed 2. Denser root vegetables like potatoes and carrots need 500ml of water and 20 to 30 minutes of cooking time. If you’re using your Varoma® for layered cooking, make sure the dish you’re cooking in your Thermomix® Bowl below contains at least 500g of liquid.
What are the best vegetables to steam in the tray?
You can steam absolutely any vegetable in the Varoma® Steaming Tray. We especially love how it infuses marinated veggies with maximum flavour without dripping anything into your rice or other dishes cooking in the bowl below. Broccoli and cauliflower are perfect for steam cooking in the tray because they act like flavour sponges. Sliced mushrooms in garlic butter or miso work beautifully too. And baby corn or snap peas stay perfectly crisp in a sweet chilli or sesame sauce.
But the real value is in the way it cooks vegetables separately in the divided tray to keep your fussy eaters happy.
Is stainless steel safe for cooking with steam?
Yes, stainless steel is non-toxic and completely safe for steam cooking. It doesn’t leach any harmful chemicals or react to sauces and marinades containing acidic foods like lemon or tomatoes. It’s noncorrosive and rust-resistant, and because we sourced the highest quality stainless steel for the Varoma® Steaming Tray, it heats quickly and cooks evenly.
Can you use the divided tray for steaming fish or rice?
Yes, fish and rice both steam beautifully in the divided steel tray. Cooking for one or two? There’s ample room to cook your fish on one side of the divided tray and rice on the other. Feeding a family of four? Use the whole tray to steam your fish and cook your rice in the Thermomix® Simmering Basket below. Or steam four serves of fluffy rice in the tray and cook a fish curry or stew in the Thermomix® Bowl.
What is the best fish to steam in the tray?
Salmon or white fish fillets hold their shape perfectly when cooked in the Varoma® Steaming Tray. They’re delicious seasoned with aromatic herbs. We especially love prawns in garlic butter or sweet chilli sauce – they stay beautifully plump and soft in the tray. Not a rubbery morsel in sight.
What is the best protein to steam in the tray?
Marinated proteins like chicken, fish and tofu are best for steam cooking in the stainless steel tray, as it holds and locks in all that flavour and moisture. Prawns in garlic butter or sweet chilli sauce stay beautifully plump and soft. Salmon or white fish fillets seasoned with aromatic herbs hold their shape perfectly. Omelette, diced chicken in a honey-soy sauce or tofu marinated in soy-garlic sauce work a treat too.
